WHAT IS PROPOSITION?

A PREPOSITION IS A WORD PLACED BEFORE A NOUN OR A PRONOUN TO SHOW THE RELATION IN WHICH ONE PERSON OR THING STANDS TO ANOTHER PERSON OR THING AND TO SHOW  DIRECTION, PLACE, LOCATIONTIME, SPATIAL RELATIONSHIP OR TO INTRODUCE AN OBJECT. IT REPRESENT THE RELATIONSHIP  BETWEEN OTHERS WORDS.
READ THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES.

THE WORD ON, NEAR, BEHIND,UNDER AND IN FRONT OF SHOW THE RELATIONSHIP IN WHICH THE BOY STANDS ON THE TABLE. SUCH WORDS ARE CALLED PREPOSITIONS. 

LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES:
1. A DOG SET BY ME.   
2. THE SUN IS ABOVE US.
3. SHE WILL COME WITH YOU.
4.THE DOG RUN BEHIND HIM.
5. IT SAT BESIDES ME.

SOME OF THE PREPOSITION ARE : IN, ON, FROM, ALONG, ACROSS, 
TO, BY, FOR, INTO, UNDER, BEHIND, ETC. THEY ALL INDICATES RELATION BETWEEN A NOUN OR A PRONOUN AND SOME OTHER WORD IN A SENTENCE.
A PREPOSITION IS A WORD THAT SHOWS THE RELATIONSHIP OF A NOUN OR A PRONOUN WITH SOME OTHER WORD OR WORDS IN A SENTENCE.

EXAMPLE- 

PINKY IS TALKING TO HER FRIEND. ( TO SHOWS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PINKY AND HER FRIEND.)

KRISHNAM IS WAITING FOR HIS TURN.( FOR SHOWS THE RELATION BETWEEN ANIL AND TURN.)

ARTHA WAS PLAYING WITH HER FRIENDS. SHE HIT THE BALL WITH HER BAT.( WITH SHOWS THE RELATION BETWEEN ARTHA AND HER FRIENDS.)

THE CAT IS LOOKING AT THE MILK IN THE PLATE. ( AT SHOWS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE CAT AND THE MILK. IN SHOWS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MILK AND THE PLATE.)

THE CHILD IS RUNNING AROUND THE TABLE.( AROUND SHOWS THE RELATION BETWEEN THE CHILD AND TABLE.)

THE BALL DARTED TOWARDS A WINDOW.(TOWARDS INDICATES THE DIRECTION OF THE BALL.)

RAJ RAN AFTER THE BALL TO CATCH IT.( AFTER SHOWS LOCATION OF THE RAJ.)
THE BALL HIT THE GLASS BROKE INTO SEVERAL PIECES. (INTO SHOWS THE RELATION BETWEEN GLASS AND ITS SEVERAL PIECES.)

BESIDE OR BESIDES

  • BESIDE : – IT MEANS NEXT TO SOMETHING OR SOMEONE.
EXAMPLE –  NISHA’S HOUSE IS BESIDE THE PARK.( NISHA’S HOUSE IS NEXT TO THE PARK.)

  • BESIDES : – IT MEANS IN ADDITION TO, APART FROM, ALSO,AS WELL AS.
